Dyslexia Tuition face to face - 1:1 (sorry no availability - 2025)
My approach
Tuition is Specialist in terms of how the individual learns/thinks, and although it predominantly covers Literacy, it can also cover Maths skills and adaptable skills which can be applied across the curriculum. Students will have the chance to find their way of learning and be encouraged to share this in the sessions. By understanding their own thought process (Metacognition skills) they will be able to utilise these skills and inform others at school and at home of how they learn and the support they need.
Sessions are broken down into small areas of learning with SMART targets, and by working on these areas each week in various multisensory ways, learners are thrilled when they have retained their learning in the 5th/6th week. This leads to the children feeling happier about their own way of learning and gives them confidence, which is evident within school.
Multisensory resources (learner uses more than one of their senses) work really well and learning is reinforced in a way that suits the learner: balloons, paper chains, making models, hoopla/jenga spelling, images, talking learning through, movement, listening, watching videos, Post-its, 'complete' stamps, flag labels, velcro!
This really works, not only is learning fun, this way also helps the learner to remember and reflect on previous learning as they (for example) are able to picture and remember what they did. It's the actively doing something with the learning that reinforces it and is how my learners learn.
Secondary Students - 1:1 Study Skills Sessions (if needed these can be for a fixed shorter period of time to allow Students to follow on elsewhere with Subject Specific Tutors)
- a recap of previous learning (with prompts) of each area every session and small steps moving towards the targets in the 5th/6th week
